53rd Centennial Invite live Saturday on RunnerSpace By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Foot Locker Cross Country finalist Joshua Schumacher of Jesuit OR is on the start list for the boys 3,000 meters Saturday at the 53rd Centennial Invitational in Gresham, Ore. The meet is one of the oldest and grandest in the Northwest and comes this spring amid a wet start to the season in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The meet will be webcast live on RunnerSpace starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. (And yes, there is rain in the forecast, though the temperatures should be mild). Schumacher, a junior, will have a chance to test himself against a field that includes Washington Class 2A cross country champion Silas Griffith of Ridgefield. Defending champion Carter Bracken of Lake Oswego is the top seed in the 110-meter hurdles. He ran 14.23 for a new lifetime best on Wednesday in a dual meet against Tigard. Junior Darian Hageman of Astoria is one of the headliners on the girls side. Hageman swept the Oregon Class 4A titles in the high jump, long jump and triple jump, and also placed sixth in the pole vault at the 2016 OSAA state championships. Hageman is entered in the long jump, triple jump and high jump. Sailor Hutton of Bandon, Ginger Murnieks of Sprague, Kyla Becker of Lincoln and Olivia Johnson of Barlow, four of Oregon's top distance runners, are all entered in the girls 3,000 meters. More news |
